What is Mucinac?

Mucinac Tablet is a medicine that is used for the treatment of Acute Cough Due To Viscous Mucus, Tear Deficiency, Paracetamol Poisoning and other conditions.

Mucinac Tablet contains Acetylcysteine as an active ingredient.

Mucinac Tablet works by decreasing the amount of mucous secretion; maintaining the hepatic concentrations of glutathione in the body.

Mechanism of Action of Mucinac 600mg Tab 10s:

Acetylcysteine May Decrease The Viscosity Of Secretions By Splitting Of Disulphide Bonds In Mucoproteins. It Also Promotes The Detoxification Of An Intermediate Paracetamol Metabolite Which Is Used In The Management Of Paracetamol Overdosage. Absorption: Rapidly Absorbed From The GI Tract (Oral); Peak Plasma Concentrations After 0.5-1 Hr. Distribution: Protein-Binding: 50%. Metabolism: Extensively Hepatic. Excretion: Urine; Elimination Half-Life: 6.25 Hr (Oral); 5.58 (IV).

Special Precautions for Mucinac 600mg Tab 10s:

Asthmatic Patients, History Of Bronchospasm, Peptic Ulceration. pregnancy, Lactation.

Why it is prescribed :

This medication is a mucolytic agent, prescribed for chronic bronchopulmonary disease, cystic fibrosis and others. It works by thinning of mucus and ease its removal. It is also used in the management of paracetamol overdose. It works by thinning of mucus and ease its removal.

When it is not to be taken (Contraindications):


Pregnancy Category : Category B

Animal studies have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus and appropriate studies on pregnant women are lacking.

Dosage & When it is to be taken (Indications):

The recommended dose for most patients is 3 to 5 mL of the 20% solution or 6 to 10 mL of the 10% solution three to four times a day.

How it should be taken :

It comes as a sterile unpreserved solution (not for injection) in vials containing a 10% (100 mg/mL) or 20% (200 mg/mL) solution of acetylcysteine.


As a Mucolytic Agent

MUCINAC 600 Tablets are indicated as adjuvant therapy for patients with abnormal, viscid, or inspissated mucus secretions in such conditions as:

Chronic bronchopulmonary disease (chronic emphysema, emphysema with  bronchitis, chronic asthmatic bronchitis, tuberculosis, bronchiectasis, and primary amyloidosis of the lungs)

Acute bronchopulmonary disease (pneumonia, bronchitis, tracheobronchitis)

Pulmonary complications of cystic fibrosis

Tracheostomy care

Pulmonary complications associated with surgery

Use during anaesthesia

Post-traumatic chest conditions

Atelectasis due to mucus obstruction

Diagnostic bronchial studies (bronchograms, bronchospirometry, and bronchial- wedge catheterization)

Other Precautions :

Avoid excess dosage.

Storage Conditions :

Store at room temperature between 59-86 degrees F (15-30 degrees C) away from light. After opening the vial, store in the refrigerator and use within 96 hours (4 days). The solution may change to a light purple color. This is normal and will not affect how the drug works.
